Irena was born in Split, Croatia. She has a degree in Marine Biology. After university, she worked in Bosnia as a liaison officer for the Royal Canadian Regiment visiting villages with the UN forces translating conversations between military forces and returned farmers making sure they were in peace. Afterwards, she joined the American Refugee Committee for 4 years working on reconstruction projects for the Bosnian refugees in Croatia. She then ran an outdoor shop in Split for 20 years and then joined ExperiencePlus this past year.
